This Benton City, WA family winery located in the heart of Washington's spectacular Red Mountain AVA. Founded over 30 years ago, they own some of the area's top vineyards and were one of the first in Washington to convert to biodynamic farming. One of their fantastic red blends is a Bordeaux-inspired blend of 76% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 4% Syrah sourced from Columbia Valley and Red Mountain vineyards. It is aged in a mix of both French and American oak for over a year and has flavors and aromas of ripe red fruits, cedarwood, leather, and savory herbs.
Another great red blend from Hedges is sourced from the splendid vineyards of Columbia Valley and Red Mountain in Washington state. With spicy and earthy tones underlying a dark red fruit bouquet, this wine has subtle oak and perfectly balanced tannins. Despite its elegant flavor profile, the quality of this wine makes the sticker price an absolute shocker. It can be enjoyed now or in a year or two, and pairs well with any roasted meat for a delicious gourmet experience.
For those looking for an easy drinking wine, this wine offers a light to medium-bodied red with a floral note, vanilla, and blueberry on the nose. It has blackberry, earth, and some cocoa flavors, with good acidity and a medium finish. Similarly, their solid blend has a jam-forward nose and palate, with flavors of plum, blackberry, blueberry, and currant. It finishes more dry with pepper and tobacco.
I would recommend this wine as a daily drinking wine that pairs well with bolder flavors such as red meats, salmon and chicken. I recently discovered a great pairing article at Winefolly. I would definitely go back to Costco and buy a few more bottles especially now that they are on sale at an great price point.
